Our blog contains news and snippets of some wonderful weddings and portrait we have been privileged to photograph. Also included are photos from our everyday life and interests. Enjoy browsing!

The Wakefields

The Wakefields - Shaggy Dog ProductionsThe Wakefield family came to us after visiting the home of friends who had their family photos taken in our home studio a few years ago.

It is very satisfying when bookings come through the recommendation of clients who like what we do and pass on our details.

In the end, photography is an art form which stands or falls on the quality of our work and the service we provide.

Don’t forget the memory cards!

Michelle and Ivan - Shaggy Dog ProductionsOK, the bit about memory cards is a bit of an inside joke for Michelle and Ivan. It’s always good to meet folks who can cope with my rather ‘manic’ sense of humour.

It certainly has been fun to get to know them, even if only briefly. We are certainly looking forward to the privilege of photographing their wedding in a few weeks.

It has been particularly amusing for me to come across, in Michelle, someone who is every bit as organised as Susan! It’s good to know Susan isn’t the only one who can make me look so hopelessly administratively challenged .

Georgina: This is your life!

Georgina - Shaggy Dog Productions
Susan has had the pleasure of photographing Georgina from the day of her birth through to her recent 1st birthday.

As a special gift, Susan presented Goce and Sanja, Georgina’s parents, with a digital book which beautifully recorded her growth over the first year of her precious life.

It was a wonderful thrill to see Goce and Sanja review the past year with smiles and yes, even a few tears of joy, as they turned the pages of the book. Below are just a few samples.

We wish them every blessing and wisdom as they care for Georgina in the years ahead and as they prepare for the birth of their second child.

Young Andrew

Kerr Family Portrait - Shaggy Dog ProductionsYoung Andrew James Kerr still managed to be ever so cute despite being sick and having mum and dad coaxed into an informal portrait shoot.

Taking photos of babies and young children has it’s unique challenges at the best of times, so it was good to be able to take our time, share a bite to eat and take the photos during Andrew’s restful moments.

Daniel and Jess did a great job, as a sick restless child can be a tad stressful to say the least! All in all, we were happy to get a few frames to post on this blog.

Mother’s Day

Susan - Shaggy Dog ProductionsMothers deserve recognition and thanks for the time and energy they so selflessly give to their families. As mentioned in the previous blog we celebrated Mothers’ Day with a picnic lunch in King’s Park. Chloe, often referred to as Susan’s ‘mini-Me’ – because of their strong resemblance (in more than looks, I might add!!) – was full of zest, enjoying the opportunity to run bare feet on the lush lawns.

Joining us for the picnic was Susan’s sister Roz, and Chloe’s grandpa and gran (Martin and Jean Trend). As the photo montage below clearly shows, Chloe loves being around her grand parents. It seems her infectious smile and laughter can easily bridge any ‘generation gap’.

Strangers in the park

Family Portrait - Shaggy Dog ProductionsAs a professional photographer I am quite use to receiving quizzical looks and even suspicious stares as I stroll about, with my long zooms lens and kit, looking for a photo opportunity.

I often spot an interesting face, a photogenic person or a family group that would make a good subject for an impromptu shoot. But more often than not nothing eventuates because of my timidity or reluctance to seem intrusive.

So it was quite delightful, while in Kings Park celebrating Mothers’ Day, to come across complete strangers who were not only willing to smile for a photo, but were quite enthusiastic about it,

As promised, I am very pleased to post these photos on our blog. It all happened so quickly, I forgot to even ask for a name while handing over our business card after taking these photos.

Having observed their interaction with each other (while we were enjoying our own family picnic lunch), there is nothing fabricated about the sense of fun and friendship in these photos .

Hopefully they will drop me an email when they view this – it would be terrific to put some names to the faces!

Chip off the old block

Basson Family Portrait - Shaggy Dog ProductionsIt is always a special delight to photograph a father and son together, as daughters, babies and mums seem to be the norm when it comes to photo shoots. This time we hit the jack pot with three generations of Basson males!!

After about five minutes of shyness, young Blake was soon buzzing about on high octane! Thankfully we did get a few moments to grab a few shots of Blake with his dad, Craig, and adoring grandparents.

Blake is certainly a chip off the old block. Craig is certain Blake’s exuberance is payback for his childhood.

A father’s indulgence …

Chloe - Shaggy Dog ProductionsI hope you will forgive this fatherly indulgence. Seeing Chloe so full of life, enjoying the beautiful sunshine, and uninhibited in our back garden, was a photo opportunity a proud dad simply couldn’t resist.

Susan and I are certainly blessed to have a healthy, vivacious and happy daughter in Chloe.

Her smile is a precious gift, which we hope she will continue to share with family and friends in her years ahead.

A reason to celebrate

Mohen Family - Shaggy Dog ProductionsFor Tracey and Brett, the occasion of their tenth wedding anniversary was a wonderful reason to celebrate and renew their wedding vows.

The Horse and Carriage was a special treat, and Riley and Abby certainly enjoyed the day as much as their mum and dad.

Having taken photos of young Abby when she was just a little baby, it was wonderful to see how much she had grown. Riley too is fast becoming a stylish young boy.

The many faces of Shyla

Shyla Portrait Photography - Shaggy Dog Productions Young Shyla certainly steals the show in these two panoramic, 14 x 32 inches, collages her parents got framed for their home. It has been a particularly delightful experience for Susan to record Shyla’s growth since her birth. There is no doubting Regan and Clare are proud parents, and their enthusiasm and patience during the studio shoot made it an enjoyable creative session for Susan.

Digital Play

Brooke - Shaggy Dog ProductionsSince acquiring a Wacom tablet and  Corel Painter, I have enjoyed learning and playing with digital painting techniques.  I have always enjoyed drawing and painting, but being able to do so digitally has opened numerous creative possibilities.

These two images of Chloe’s very good friend, Brooke, are two samples of images which were created with the help of a pressure sensitive digital pen and software which emulates natural artistic media (e.g. water colour and pastels).
